This review is just about the Spin Groupon.
I really like spin classes so when I saw the groupon for it, I thought why not give it a chance. The gym is located in a fairly convenient central location - close to the subway.
The spin class is essentially 10 bikes assembled around an instructor. It's not private and the space isn't huge. Don't expect anything special from the instruction, music or ambience like in a normal spin studio or gym. The area isn't even a separate room so you can hear the ambient music of the gym along with the spin music. This class is more like a cycling class. You do some stuff out of saddle but essentially the instructor just tells you to go fast or slow in saddle or out and hard or soft resistance. You could basically do the class yourself in a normal gym if you just went fast for 30 seconds and then slow for 30 seconds.
I prefer classes that are either choreographed to specific songs and come with weights for your arms. Usually instructors put some thought into the flow of a class, starting slow, then picking faster songs for the middle and ending with a cool off. This class wasn't really to any beat or music. It seemed like that was just accessory.
Additionally the bikes they had were wobbly and the instructor didn't really go around to explain adjustments or show proper cycling positions before starting.
Overall not a great experience. I don't think I'll use the rest of my classes so it was a bit of a waste of money. Thank god I only bought the 5 class package.
PS Towel rentals (large ones) cost $1 each. No lock rentals so bring your own.
Pros:
Location
Lots of private changerooms/showers
Cons:
More like cycling rather than "spin" classes
Not great preparation by instructor
Bikes were wobbly
No towel service/shoe rental
