I took my wife here on 1/23/17 after Barrow's Neurological Institute and highly regarded Dr. White pissed me off. Anyways, we arrive to this huge and beautiful campus at Mayo and we were just in awe on how nice the facility was and how efficient our visit was and we were even late because we went to the Phoenix campus not knowing that our visit was actually at the Scottsdale campus. Upon arriving, it definitely feels like you are arriving at a mini Las Vegas casino and resort due to the sheer size of the facility. There are signs everywhere like you would see in a resort. Our visit today was to see the Endocrinologist (Dr. Whittaker). We were seen within 10 minutes of arrival and the doctor's office had a couch in there (LOL). We went through the same routine and questions about my wife's health and set up a treatment plan which included lab work, 24 hour urine and MRI. After seeing the doctor Mayo was quick to get us in for lab work and were ready to do the MRI on the same day if we chose to but we only did the lab work and scheduled MRI for another day because we live about 30 minutes away from this facility and rush hour was getting ready to start plus with the rain on this day I was not trying to be stuck in traffic the way idiots drive out here when it rains. Our first impression of Mayo Clinic is a positive one and we were just amazed at the efficiency of our first visit.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
(1) Not all insurance providers are accepted here so definitely confirm in-network coverage.
(a) We have BCBS through my employer but keep in mind not all BCBS is accepted.
(2) Pay attention, ask questions and keep treatment costs in mind. Mayo is expensive.
(a) Our deductible before BCBS pays is $2,000 individual/$4,000 family. We scheduled my wife's MRI and then I proactively checked my insurance coverage to see what our cost would be (because we are still in January and haven't met deductible yet) and a MRI at Mayo would have ran us $908 (Ahh hell no) while other facilities outside of Mayo charge $300 to $400 per our insurance coverage plan.
(3) Confirm what Mayo campus you are scheduled for Phoenix or Scottsdale. They are 15-20 minutes from each other depending on traffic and it sucks to go to the wrong campus when you are already running behind for your appointment.
If you have insurance that is in-network for Mayo Clinic and you have the need to visit them I highly recommend them. I am sure they are not perfect but their facilities and staff are top notch when it comes to friendliness and efficiency. I will definitely post updates of our experience here as we will be working with Mayo for my wife's health care needs for the rest of the year.
