  • Came here for the first time, arriving at about 1030PM on a Saturday night during their soft opening. I had attempted to come here Friday but soon realized their hours during soft opening was 0300P til 1100P. After attending a friend's Cinco de Mayo party and rushing over here. The downside about this shopping center is super busy on weekends and extremely difficult to find parking. With 3 cars in just my party, along with many others circling around, it was a "race" to see who can find a spot opening as quick as you can. Luckily we all got spots around the same time after spending some time wandering the parking lot. Matcha CafĂ© Maiko is a popular place from Japan, that also has locations in Honolulu and San Francisco. Lately, Las Vegas has been getting quite the few popular places from other cities/countries opening up here and we are quite fortunate for that. As with all firsts at a new place, I usually try to go for their specialties. I had ordered the 'Maiko Special' from their Parfait Selection w/ Matcha soft-serve ice cream. This was definitely an interesting parfait but definitely not a favorite. As with all parfaits, there are different things in the parfait. For this one in particular, there are 6ish 7 things. From top to bottom, it was a light sprinkle of matcha powder (iunoe if you'd count this as 1 thing... Lol), matcha soft-serve ice cream, 3 mochi balls, cubes of a matcha cake, a layer of red bean paste, corn flakes, and a clear gelatin on the bottom. The matcha soft-serve is good. Good matcha flavor, nice and smooth. Not the smoothest matcha soft-serve i've ever had but for vegas, its good. Lol Unfortunately, everything else is way more than the ice cream. The mochi balls were plain, but were nice and chewy. Fairly good sized, smaller than a ping pong ball. The cubes of matcha cake were kind of dry, but the flavor was good. Personally I'm not a fan of red bean paste, or most things red bean. The paste is similar to that of filling in Japanese taiyaki. Thick and super sweet. The corn flakes add a good touch, mildly sweet and gives crunch to the entire parfait. Would be nice if they put some corn flakes on top too. Below that on the bottom, is small cubes of clear, plain gelatin. Overall, its not bad but it wasn't all that great. The matcha soft-serve was yummy but everything else, I wasn't too fond of. Besides corn flakes, I can omit the cake, definitely the red bean paste. Mochi and the jelly is ok as it gives a nice "contrast" to the deep matcha flavor. How I would have done the layering for the parfait would maybe be corn flakes, matcha soft serve w/ mochi balls on top, matcha cake, corn flakes and jelly, and matcha soft serve on the bottom. Like how some other people may have said, get the soft serve cone if you want ice cream. Imo, better bang for the buck. At $7.60 before tip after 10% soft opening special, I still don't feel like it was a good deal. Unfortunately, they don't have a hojicha soft-serve. They MAY have it in a few months but apparently its not a regular offering. Typically, I love getting the roasted tea soft serve at a place in Costa Mesa, CA inside Mitsuwa. If only they had offered that too.... At first, they did not accept credit cards, only cash. As of 05/05/18 night, they had accepted credit cards and NFC payment (apple/google pay).
