| - I love the market. If you're ever up at 5 or 6 or so on a Saturday and really need water buffalo yogurt, this is the place to go. Saturday morning is the farmers' market in the North building There are a lot of highlights - ultra-fresh eggs, the sheep farmers' cooperative, organic chicken, and a great selection of prepared foods. The South market has some of the best butchers, bakers, cheese shops, and fishmongers in the city. I live close by and love hitting the place around 4pm on a Saturday and stocking my freezer with unbelievable bargains.
That said, the market has its flaws. It's closed on Sunday and Monday. Too many of the North Market vendors carry food terminal produce instead of their own; during the summer, there are a lot of other smaller markets where the vendors sell only their own products (Riverdale farmers' market, for example.) It's expensive, and the selection is great but not quite as interesting as the Jean-Talon or Atwater markets in Montreal. It' a very good market, and the best overall destination for food in Toronto. St. Lawrence makes a great, central destination for everything a foodie needs.
