| - Spak Bros. provided the seitan for a vegetarian wing-off at Butterjoint. The evening of the wing-off, Butterjoint was packed, and the event was poorly organized. We left and went to the seitan wing originator, and we were infinitely happier for it.
Spak Bros. has very few seats inside, so you might consider calling in and picking an order up -- that's what most people appeared to do. We ordered the BBQ seitan wings and a seitan cheesesteak, which may not have been the best idea, since we were pretty seitan'ed out by the end of the meal, but we took our food to Mixtape and got a couple of cocktails to go with (the highlight of our evening). The wings were a bit salty, so I found that it helps to take smaller bites rather than popping the giant chunks into your mouth. If you've ever been to Veggie Grill in California, I'd say that the wings there are better, in terms of texture and flavor. More celery to balance out saltiness might help with these wings.
The cheesesteak was really good, and I would definitely get it again. Wasn't too dry, had some veggies, and the roll didn't get mushy/kept a good consistency. I used to love cheesesteaks (back when I ate meat), so I was super excited to find a great seitan version.
