I am not a geek/nerd by any means, however I do date one. Last year he wanted to go to the Expo, I will try almost anything once so away we went. It was so fun we went again this year.
This year's Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo was way better than last year (granted I have only been the 2 years). My favorite panels this year were Will Wheaton, Nathan Fillion and Games of Thrones Peter Dinklage and Lena Headley. Stan Lee and Carrie Fisher were also very good. (All free)
We had weekend passes which were well worth the money. Although we did not do any of the autographs (you pay extra $) or photo ops (you pay extra $) the organization around these was far superior to last year (I heard the organizers worked closely with the Fire Marshals this year). I think the pre-purchase and limited quantities at specific times for the photo ops and autographs helped with the lines and moving people through quicker.
The organizers also, for the most part, learned from the line disasters last year, however the lines in the Palomino definitely still needed ALOT of work. I like to keep in mind that 95% of the people "working" this function are actually volunteers!
The vendors always have alot of cool merchandise, some reasonably priced, some not so much. And as usual the artists were outstanding!
Although the food choices could still use some improvements, moving the main "food court" was a nice addition. Also having food trucks available was an awesome addition!
Since this year sold out online I would suggest signing up for the newsletter so you know when tickets go on sale.
