  • We stopped by for Restaurant Week (and as a final hurrah before getting on the keto diet bandwagon - wish me luck) but even though Citizen Public House currently sits at 1600+ reviews and four and a half stars, it was a little lackluster. Tip: You'd probably want to call in more than a day ahead of time to get a seat inside the restaurant and not at the bar. We didn't think of this beforehand and wound up with patio seating, which though limited, was actually pretty nice. It's a lot quieter than it is inside, which though wasn't a bar, had the noise level of one. One downside was that it seemed like our waiter handled all the tables outside. So I'm not sure if he was stretched thin or he was having a bad day, but I've had cashiers who were more involved than he was as a waiter. That aside, the food was mediocre. I was blown away by the salads - both the chopped salad and golden and red beet salads were amazing. One was savory, the other sweet (in that order) but they were by far the favorites for me of the entire dinner. Not saying they weren't phenomenal, but the other dishes were kind of...meh, in my opinion. For the main course, my husband ordered the scallops while I got the monkfish. I preferred the scallops even though I thought I'd prefer the monkfish as it sat in lobster bisque but I guess I had expected more, but it wound up being a dish with the same flavor throughout - no nuanced flavors and textures as I would have hoped. The scallops weren't spectacular either but I just like scallops so that was pretty much it there. Unlike the many other restaurant week offerings from the other restaurants, I was a little disappointed to see that Citizen Public House only had one option for dessert. It was a cobbler which though looked good, the saving grace was the shortbread which had a bit of lemon in it to cut the onslaught of berries and compote. I love berries, don't get me wrong but well, I expected better. It was a nice dinner and I'm glad that I stopped by to curb my curiosity, but next time this place comes up, be it during restaurant week or otherwise, I don't think I'd be as eager to stop by.
