| - Had to get my license renewed and the Real ID they require for travel soon. Tried making an appointment online the night before but it automatically gives you options for next week. I figured I'd check the system to see the wait time when they open and decide if I wanted to wait or not. Wait time was only 14 minutes at opening so I tried the appointment link again and they had one available for 1145am that same day. I took it. Got there at 1135am, no line at the information counter, no line at the already scheduled appointment line, which is to the left btw. Sat down, was called at 1148am. Flew through the paperwork, got a new photo and was out of there by 12pm! I still have no idea why people subject themselves to waiting around all day for services. They offer mostly all the forms you need online to fill out and take with you before you go, they offer appointments, they offer kiosk options so you don't have to sit there all day. Everything you need for a new license is CLEARLY explained online. I took my original birth certificate issued by the state, like they said was the only type they accept, also took a pay stub, utility bill, voter registration card, social security card. Now, did I need all those? No, but I wanted to be prepared in case one of the documents was not accepted! It's not hard people....make an appointment! Don't have a computer or phone? Go there and make an appointment for a different day. I laugh every time I see people saying what a horrible experience they had because in the 9 years I've lived here, I have not sat, in three different DMV buildings, more than 30 minutes. Great job DMV!
