| - This review is for the restaurant only, I've never stayed at the hotel.
There's something about this place that I like. It's odd, its downstairs under a boutique hotel and it's a bit of an odd space that doesn't seem utilized properly and yet, I dig it. While it is underground there is tons of light and floor to ceiling windows above you at the entrance so you don't feel cramped. In fact, you feel...secluded and protected from the busy Queen and Spadina traffic.
A few tables, a bar section and some comfy couches give you your choice or tone for the evening. Drinks, lunch/dinner or both! A decent and well priced wine list and a rotating food menu based on seasonal and local choices keeps it fresh and worth coming back to. I've had both lunch and dinner that were good. The lunch was a summerlicious menu that outdid most of those types of menus for me. Full portions, a lovely salad, vegetarian friendly pasta and yummy lemon tart dessert. My colleague and I both enjoyed our meals. My second trip there was for dinner and I had seared tuna which was good but the sides were a bit lame. My friend liked her dinner as well although sorry I don't remember what she had.
I think this place is a gem in the heart of downtown that has drink specials, a nice decor and a relaxing but upscale feel. Good food, good wine, an oasis in the overcrowded hotspots in the Queen/Spadina area.
