I have been with SSSCU for about 7 years. They were good to me over the years...until recently. I financed my car through SSSCU last year. My payment was about $170 per month, but after a couple of months my payment jumped to about $270. Apparently, they never received my proof of insurance (which I was never notified of), so they tacked on their own supplementary insurance. As soon as I found out I provided proof of insurance; I was told that my payment would remain at $270 for 8 more months. I filed paperwork to modify my loan (by modify I mean get the payment back to what I agreed to pay when I signed the paperwork). I was told that they couldn't modify the loan since I hadn't missed any payments...I will never understand how being responsible is a bad thing...
The icing on the cake is that I was told by a representative of SSSCU that I wouldn't be responsible for any loan payments until the paperwork had been reviewed and I was notified of the outcome. This was COMPLETELY FALSE. Not only did I miss my payment and get charged late fees, but they automatically took out the payment resulting in 5 overdraft fee equaling $150. When I contacted the bank to try and rectify the situation and get at least some of the overdraft fees reversed I was basically told that I was S.O.L.
I don't know what happened, but at some point they just stopped caring about customer service (just like most companies nowadays). I have recently opened an account at another financial institution and will be transferring my loan ASAP.
