  • Ok here starts my horror story. I called Uptowne dry cleaning on Saturday from my usual dry cleaner (regal cleaners). I was dropping off my clothes at regal and learned that they don't do wash and fold service (only dry cleaning). So, I called Uptowne Drycleaning and spoke with Leslie on the phone. I explained that I was looking for wash and fold and she said that they offer "fluff and fold." I wasn't sure what the difference was so I explained what I was looking for. I wanted them to wash, dry, and fold my clothes so I could transfer them straight to my luggage (going on a long trip). She was very professional and kind and said that they offer a "fluff and fold" service and that's what I would need. They would wash, dry, and fold my clothes. I came to pick up my clothes on Monday and when I showed Miriam my ticket she seemed confused. She said "fold?" And then she came back and explained that she didn't remember the ticket. My clothes were in a bag not folded. I asked her if they were folded and she said she didn't know. They never open the bags.... She was professional and seemed like she truly didn't know. I pulled out a couple of shirts to see if they were folded and she saw how wrinkled they were and said, "I see what your saying; they aren't folded." She then called on her co worker named Dar who came out gave me a dirty look and said "I have no idea...we don't open the bags..." And walked away. I was surprised by Dar's unprofessionalism and asked Miriam if that was her supervisor. She said no, there is no supervisor here. I continued to speak with Miriam who again was patient but seemed new and I explained that I was happy to pay whatever it costs but I paid $30 for "fluff and fold." I expected them to FOLD. She said there was no manager there and I could use my personal phone (because they don't have a phone) to call their accountant Carol. She gave me 2 phone numbers and both went straight to voicemail. I explained that my ticket clearly said it was for "Fluff and FOLD." She said, I have no idea what to tell you, but I'll check with Dar. I asked again if they had any manager I could speak with to help me. At that point Dar came storming to the front and said, "I just got off the phone with David and he said, "leave now and don't ever come back here." It was a bit shocking because I would have paid whatever they charge for washing and drying clothes without folding. They just had no idea what that amount was? I left confused and disappointed. Not only did they keep my expensive laundry hamper; Dar was so toxic it felt like an attack out of no where. Overall: Leslie was awesome and her customer service on the phone brought me in. Miriam was nice and she seemed genuinely concerned and understanding of my frustration. "Fluff and Fold" to both of us meant there was FOLDING involved. Dar was denigrating, insulting, and downright hateful. The way she treated me indicated a more personal anger or emotional issue. If she truly called the owner Dave (like she said) and he authorized her to kick me out for calling them out, it speaks volumes about their business practices and general humanity. What owner's first reaction is to proliferate negativity? Really hurtful and horrible encounter that just goes to show how hateful people can be even when they are in customer service.
