Normally I enjoy visiting this YMCA. I would call my normal experience 3-4 stars. The facility is decent and the staff is generally very nice; the front desk especially.
Last night while playing basketball with a group of friends we couldn't hear the announcement over the PA that the gym was closing. Not knowing it was 10:02 we kept playing. A security person ran onto the court and said "you guys got to get out of here" in the most condescending tone ever. I asked him what he was talking about not realizing the time and he squared up like he wanted to fight me while continuing to yell in my face about leaving. This was so utterly uncalled for.
I reminded him I was just a patron enjoying myself at a facility I pay to be at and expect to have better treatment when we can't hear a PA due to construction changes. He said "that is not my fault, get out of here." I could have handled the direct communication but when a person makes threatening body language complete with clinched fists that is something I will not tolerate.
You guys need to teach your security personnel people skills. If they act like street thugs and try to fight people as a normal course of doing business you will soon loose additional membership and face litigations. The other thing to keep in mind is people listen when you treat them like people. I'm a 34 year old charismatic man and I treat people with respect. I expect to be treated with respect because I treat people with respect. I don't want to be harassed or insulted by a security guard who dislikes his hours and job.
