| - Damn close to my house, plays hockey games and has karaoke, how could I refuse a visit? It's nothing that will knock your socks off, but they have lots of sports on a bevy of TVs and a few different rooms (in a pretty classy older building retrofitted into a pub - it's minimal but not dark or dirty) including a quieter upstairs. The patio can be great too, if it's a warm evening.
Food is pretty varied pub fare from a huge menu that goes from burgers to curry. I've had wings (well done and available in many styles to suit your taste), sweet potato fries (so great!), onion rings (I usually love them but these were too greasy), fajitas (pretty darn good, with the sizzling plate and assemble-your-own dynamic), and nachos (the chips are light and crispy and you get plenty of jalapenos, but they come up short on cheese and only give you a little bit of sour cream/salsa.) They also serve a positively gigantic fish and chips, again a little on the greasy side but very satisfying.
The service/experience can vary just as much as the menu. I've been in here for early-evening hockey games for which my girlfriend and I were practically the only people sitting in our section and we still felt neglected, but I've also shown up on really busy nights with bigger groups of friends and had quick and friendly service (though be extra vigilant and inform your server well in advance if you want separate bills, it can get very cumbersome, especially after a few drinks!) Your mileage may vary. Depending on the night you arrive and where you're sitting, you might have to strain to hear over the karaoke... or you could join in.
Of course, this being a pub, beer is important. The bar deals in pretty much all of the standard stuff that will get you through a game/match/heated round of debate - macro lagers, Rickards, Guinness, Kilkenny and so on. I've been to many bars with better taps, even if I wasn't looking to indulge my admittedly geeky tastes in beer (if you want to get into some really great brews go to Volo, just up the street on Yonge!)
Three stars, for being an essential, if not altogether refined, service - the cheap bar close by a major transit point that no one's likely to disagree with if it comes down to a night of revelry.
