| - Well, I finally stayed at the refurbished Plaza this week. I went in wanting to love it, but they made it tough.
The Good:
*Rooms are really nice. All new furniture, carpet, wall coverings
*The casino is all new as well.
*Awesome pizza place in pop up pizza
*Hash House A Go Go & Food court were very good too
*Rooms very affordable at 30-35 bucks during the week
*Just cross the street to Fremont St Experience
*Free parking for guests in garage
The Bad:
*We could not get drink service at all in the casino (machines or tables)
*Video poker was easily worst odds and machines downtown
*ONLY downtown hotel to charge a resort fee, 11 bucks a night...why?!?!
*"Free" wifi (the one I paid 11 bucks a night for) sucked. Worked maybe 1/2 the time
*The front circular driveway was a nightmare. Poorly run, cars trapped.
*The parking attendants at both lots were useless and on cell phones
So, I consider this place my new downtown Bill's Gamblin' Hall. Affordable, clean, well set up rooms. But the casino is basically unusable due to crappy drink service, and bad odds on video poker. Blackjack tables were fun and dealers were all great.
I was playing blackjack at a $5.00 table. There was one other guy there for the 45 minutes I was there starting around 1:30 am. He was playing $200.00 a hand! Amazingly, over 45 minutes we both asked for drink service multiple times, including asking the pit boss...who just had a blank expression on his face and did nothing. So we both got up and went to other casinos who offered drink service. This kind of thing happened too many times for our 48 hour stay to be just an accident, it's a plan to cheap out on booze and is a huge mistake. Solid 3 1/2 stars rounded down to 3 for BRUTAL casino drink service. Take note Plaza management, cheaping out in drink service won't save you money in the long run. You're not bean counters guys, you're in the service industry...get your act together!!!
While I'd definitely consider staying at the plaza again and dining at some of their reasonable restaurants, they're out of play as a casino to me and my buddy and any friends we bring until they fix their drink service issues.
