We showed up 45 minutes before they opened only to have 5+ people cut us in line claiming they had "signed in" already. So some people showed up hours in advance and the staff let them sign in early then allowed them to leave and then come back just before they opened. So while we waited for nearly an hour in 25 degree weather for the puppy we saw online and fell in love with, other people were in the warmth drinking coffee or out to eat or sitting in their cars. Those same people cut us in line and one of them ended up adopted the dog we came for.
It specifically says on their website that they do not hold dogs for people and when we expressed this to the staff they were rude and made us feel incompetent. The director and her assistant told us that "holding a place in line is not the same thing as holding a dog for someone." But when there are 8 puppies to adopt and 20 people in a line wrapped around the building, yes, holding a persons place in line DOES in FACT gaurentee them a dog. Every single person who cut in front of us adopted a puppy instead of the rest of us who were waiting in line in the cold like we were supposed to.
The director came out and acted like we were inconveniencing her (meanwhile at this point we had been there for over two hours waiting) and started raising her voice to us then mid sentence yelled "BYE," raised her hand up to us, and walked into the back room.
This is not a facility that cares about rescues. They don't care who the dogs go to. They don't care about reviewing applications and deciding who would be the best fit for each animal. They just care about getting rid of them and getting paid. I was so put off by this rescue. It was small, dirty, chaotic, slow, and frustrating. I hope all of these dogs went to good homes even though we waited for hours before deciding it wasn't worth it. We weren't important to ARC so we won't be returning and we'll be sure to tell all of our friends to do the same.
