I paid $160 for a quick consultation with Smith. After a simple physical eye exam (no other tests) he MISDIAGNOSED my dog as having distichia and trichiasis. I knew something was up after I took a look at the medical notes and saw he wrote that my dog was in pain and exhibited red eyes. She wasn't in pain. Her eyes weren't red. we came in because my (now former) vet recommended I take her in to see why she had watery eyes.
He tried to convince me if I didn't get the $2498 cryosurgery he was pushing that my dog would get a corneal tear and end up possibly going blind. I went and got a second opinion from a highly experienced vet with great reviews. An exam was given and tests were ran. Turns out, my dog did NOT have distichia and trichiasis. Her eyes were watery due to having small tear ducts common in small breed dogs. Dog was NOT in danger of corneal tear or going blind. This vet was willing to perform cryosurgery for $600 but told me it was medically unnecessary because the dog was NOT in pain nor showing any signs of eye irritation. I regret the time and money I spent on the consultation and the unneeded overpriced medication smith convinced me to get.
