| - A DONUT CHALLENGE!
Finally!
What took so long?
A good friend, who knows her food, recommended Dulce Donuts on Decatur to me when I was waxing rhapsodically about Real Donuts on Charleston, so I decided to put the two doughy delights to a scientific taste-test to settle the question of which store has the best donuts.
One morning, I picked up a glazed "twisty" from each place. (See photo.)
Put them side by side and examined them closely. Oh my! So shiny!
I weighed them: Dulce = 134 grams. Real = 94 grams.
I warmed them up ever so slightly by telling them uplifting stories.
Then slowly and thoughtfully consumed each one, bite by bite, going from one to the other, to maximize comparison.
Then I fell into a carb coma.
An hour later when I woke up, I gathered my dough-thoughts together.
First I must point out that both of these donuts are excellent, comparably priced, and not to be missed.
But one of the them was the clear winner.
One of them had that soft texture and delicate doughy flavor that can turn the most healthy of us into grunting, carb-craving monsters.
Real Donuts won.
Grunt.
