| - I have purchased a LOT of furniture from Living Spaces (LS). There have ben glitches with deliveries and a few minor damages, but I was reasonably OK with their service. Today I purchased 4 chairs. On the box there was a disturbing warning label: "THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS A CHEMICAL KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER." So, I called in to their customer service center and they told me, "nearly all of their furniture is made in China and ALL of it should have had the same label. They have to label it that way because these chemicals cause birth defects and/or cancer." REALLY? When I asked why our other LS purchases were not labeled, he said they should have been because they label all of their furniture with this same label. Even today, the chairs that were in the box had the label, the one out of the box, wrapped in plastic did not. This is disturbing to me on SOOOO many levels. These chairs will go back ... but what about the MANY other pieces ... including the ones in my children's rooms that have been sitting throughout our homes for approx. 2 years now. They went on to say that they did not even know which chemical precipitated the warning label and there was no way to find out. He also said, verbatim, that if someone already had cancer that they should not use their products AT ALL ... but otherwise it SHOULD be no problem. Should? As if he knows that it will not cause cancer in this specific case? Yikes! I think I will try another store who is upfront with their labels ... or at least does not have someone lying to me in their customer service dept. ...... or, better yet, purchase non-toxic furniture ... I don't need these particular 'cancer causing' chairs that badly!!!!!
