| - Service seemed to be consistently slammed and overwhelmed, but when it comes down to it, Pike's has some pretty good food.
Since I'm on vacation, I get what sounds interesting, and this time I drew from the bottom of the menu and pulled out an Chocolate New York Egg Cream. No, I didn't know what it was, but for those curious, it's 1/2 Yoo Hoo! (only much better tasting) and 1/2 whipped egg whites. Or something that approximates whipped egg whites. It fills the "I want ice cream but not something as heavy as a malt" gap so well that it really ought to be offered in more places.
With it I got Honey Pecan Fried Chicken, with a side of potatoes and broccoli casserole, in a misguided attempt to eat healthier. As it turns out the broccoli casserole has a lot of onions, but even more dairy, and lots of cheese. Delicious, but oops! The potatoes were very well seasoned. The fried chicken is something they're very good at; perfectly crisp at the margins, flattened to a uniform ~1/4" thickness, and holding a pool of honey and toasted pecans in the middle. This was great stuff.
They probably could use another server or two, but on the whole I'd recommend Pike's in a heartbeat.
