I have mixed feeling about Dean of Shadyside. I bought the Living Social haircut + manicure for $25. Got a fine haircut and a fine manicure from Angela, although their choice of nail color was not great. They work to get your loyalty by giving you a packet of savings coupons for your next visits, which only are good if you make your next appointment before leaving your current appointment -- though they say you can keep canceling and rescheduling.
I rescheduled once, and this time got Christina for my lowlights. She did a great job and was extremely personable and nice. If I were just reviewing Amanda and Christina, I would give Dean 4-1/2 or 5 stars.
Another thing Dean employs is to give its customers three gift passes, which entitle the holder to a free haircut. I gave one to a friend of mine who is extremely shy and not a native English speaker. She came with me when I had my hair color and they were able to schedule a cut for her with Richard.
First let me say that Richard did a very nice job on my friend's hair. Problem was, he never spoke to her. He didn't ask her what she wanted to have done with her hair. He may have assumed that the girl assisting him got that information from my friend, but I don't think she did. My friend felt kind of insulted by him, particularly when she said she wanted to come and ask me a question (I was across the salon) and he told his assistant to "Follow her."
Like I said, he did a nice job. Would have been so much better if he had employed just a tad of customer service.
