| - The first time I went to Las Vegas in 2007 with two friends, and we went to Freemont Street one night to see the light show. We stayed about 5 minutes before my friends wanted to leave.
Last year I went to Vegas with another friend (who hadn't been before), and I wanted to see Freemont Street. We spent a couple hours here one night, and while Freemont isn't as big as The Strip I liked it a lot better. They had a whole bunch of stages set up; we saw some awesome kids moonwalking and heard these two guys play an awesome rendition of Smooth Criminal on the electric cello. I liked the vibe here. Freemont Steet seemed kind of cool and artistic. One the one end of Freemont is even a part made entirely of shipping containers. There were a bunch of food trucks set up along the street, and people wandering about pretty casually. It doesn't seem quite as chaotic as The Strip.
There are a few hotels and casinos here, like Binions, 4 Queens,, etc. that are like a throwback to Vegas in its heydays. Unlike most of the other casinos in Vegas, the ones on Freemont let you gamble with your change. So if you've got a bunch of nickels or quarters in your pocket you want to get rid of you can spend them here. Of course, if you win your payout will be in change (unless maybe if you win real big, that wasn't me though).
Freemont was pretty cool. If I come back to Vegas I'd like to spend more time here.
