| - I am not a frequent customer of coffee shops such as Starbucks/Peet's/Dunkin Donuts. I go once or twice a month. Not that I don't love the coffee, etc., but I usually make what I'm drinking at home and take it to work as it's more cost effective and convenient for me (also: fewer calories).
Usually when I drink a purchased chai latte or white chocolate mocha or something similar, I am instantly transported to caffeine nirvana and I think to myself "I want to drink this ALL the time" and I am sad when my cup is empty. Unfortunately, when I have tried Peet's drinks, they fall far short of that. They taste as if they were made with hot water and flavoring (I realize they are not). It's as if the flavor is muted and it really bums me out - especially as I don't buy these drinks that often. The end result is that I don't like them. The true test is how forlorn I would be if/when I tripped and spilled my drink and the answer here is not very upset.
I'm not familiar with the Peet's brand, so maybe their coffee and beans are supposed to be the star of the show and I'm missing the boat by ordering flavored drinks.
The employees at this location are attentive and friendly. Parking is easy as there is a decent sized lot behind the building. They offer a variety of pastries, cold juices, yogurt, etc. as well. I ate a currant scone that was excellent. The prices seem the same as similar joints.
The former occupant, Caribou Coffee, had a very cozy and warm vibe. After Peet's opened, the decor and ambiance feels less warm and comfortable.
My biggest annoyance with the place is that when you get your drinks, there isn't a lid on them. I am the Queen of Clumsy so this is a recipe for disaster for me.
In summary, Peet's is adequate, but in the future I'll probably go across the street to The Root to support an independent business AND get a decent drink.
