BarBQ as good as any other in Arizona.
As a displaced Texan, I'm searching for some decent pit BarBQ. Can't Stop Smokin sounded good, smelled good, has friendly helpful staff, but sadly still falls short of good Texas Bar BQ.
I've pretty much decided only a drive or flight home will satisfy my craving. So don't think badly of the Smokin folks.
I got some sliced brisket and some sausage. Brisket is the acid test for great BarBQ. It should have a distinct smoky flavor and a reddish smoke ring 1/4 to 1/2 inch across. This brisket was moist, good flavor, but had almost invisible smoke ring. It was presliced in a steam table pan. Sausage was a kielbasa type fine texture sausage. Also moist but sliced to order. I got canned green beans and fresh cooked carrot coins for sides. Passable steam table fare.
Cornbread muffin was cakey and sweet with some whole kernel corn and jalapaneo bits. I prefer cornmeal only cornbread. Guess most Arizonan's like flour and sugar in their cornbread. I'll pass on the bread next time.
Overall, I preferred the meal at Smokin as much or more than Rudy's Texas BarBQ - across the street. The staff was definitely more engaging and helpful at Smokin.
Still searching for Texas quality BarBQ, but starting to accept its not available in Arizona. Four stars for steam table style of service. I'll be back with adjusted expectations.
