  • Sunrise Hospital There is a reason they have so many 1 star reviews! The ER is very disorganized and an ER doctor admitted they were understaffed and patients routinely receive substandard care. My boyfriend a veteran was seen at the VA hospital and they diagnosed him with what we were told at the time was a life threatening condition and sent by ambulance to sunrise for possible emergency surgery. Upon admission into ER they threw his fluids and heparin bags away but they NEVER hooked him back up until 3 hours later when I had to raise hell. Very much due to being understaffed. The nurse that afternoon all though way to busy was very nice and apologetic . When I asked about seeing the surgeon they said it wasn't important right away because he was on heparin, except he WASN'T! Fast forward 24 hours later and the vascular surgeon still hasn't made time to talk to him! I am sure they are very understaffed on surgeons as well. they won't let him eat until he sees the surgeon and the charge nurse rudely said that not eating for 2 days is not a big deal! But I say a clot in the abdomen IS a big deal and would be nice to get done what needs to be done so he can eat if it's not surgical or go to surgery! If you have a choice at all, save yourself and go somewhere else. BUT BE YOUR OWN PATIENT ADVOCATES!! And if you get admitted, good luck too. Some (not all) of the nurses VERY rude. I know people can be difficult including myself when their loved one is really sick and it seems like they are put on the back burner of importance. But the nurses job is to be compassionate not only when the spotlight is on but all the time from the littlest cases to the biggest cases. Some of doctors show zero compassion as well. You are just another patient for them to complain about having to see in their busy schedule. And a side note... if you are the loved one of the patient admitted and they are staying in the observation unit on the third floor...Watch out for the tall, thin, blonde charge nurse. She was extremely rude to me literally told me in a condescending rude tone.. " i'm not talking to you" when I was trying to explain a frustration we were having, and then she turns to my boyfriend and starts talking to him in a baby voice like I didn't even exist. After she left my boyfriend was like wow! I can't believe how rude she was to you! All the regular RN's and CNA's were wonderful with the exception of the male nurse Josh, he was rude to me as well and put down my profession ( veterinary medicine )
