Had a late dinner here shortly after the restaurant opened in July. As the grandson of German immigrants and a German history major who has traveled in that country and eaten a lot of German food, I really wanted to like this place; unfortunately, I did not. The interior is a cliche, like Der Rathskeller moved a couple miles to Monroe Street. The service was slow and uninformed, and the tables were a mess. German food is pretty tough to carry off in a restaurant serving urban American tastes, and this missed the mark. There were too many dishes using pretzels, and the menu was uninspired; coating trout in pretzel crumbs doesn't quite do it for me, and it just came off as awkward. I hope they can get their act together and breathe some creativity and inspiration into this place.
