| - pros: nice back patio.
cons: awful service, and food.
verdict: THIS PLACE WAS AWFUL. let's get started:
I came here with a friend, this visit was a first for both of us. We were interested in the oyster special they were offering, i think $1.50/shuck. we entered the resto, and are led to the back patio by who would be the worst host in Roncesvalles. there were 2 other tables of 2 seated in the otherwise empty patio with the one waitress/host. she told us to sit anywhere. so we sat down at the one shaded table for 4, all the other tables were in the sun. she then comes over and rudely says to us "sit at any table for 2, not this one. other people are going to sit here." wtf, don't tell us to sit anywhere if that's not what you wanted us to do. Such curtness is distasteful. also the patio was empty, so she could have easily put any of the two empty tables together. anyways, we go sit at another table, and we ordered 30 oysters, and 2 glasses of wine. Five mins later we get our water served in a mason jar, 15 mins later, our cold bread and wine comes to the table. we don't get to taste our wine or anything, which is weird for a wine bar. she just brings us our glasses, separately, so i'm waiting for 10 mins while my SO is staring at his glass waiting to drink it. during this time, we witnessed 2 new tables of two sit down, and eventually leave b/c they weren't being acknowledged by the waitress/host (no menus, no water, etc). we were trying to rationalize what was up with the terrible service, and when we looked over we also saw one table pay with a Groupon (so this could be the reason for the crappy service - more customers, less tips, etc).
When we FINALLY got our oysters, they were really gross. They were small, and served in a plate of water/melted ice. never, never, ever have i been served oysters on a plate of cold WATER. Just gross. also they were Not fresh. They took forever to come out. and maybe thats why the ice melted, either way, you don't serve oysters on a plate of water. AWFUL!!! absolutely disgusting. i will never go back here. During this time, the waitress never refilled our water, checked how the food was, or asked if we wanted more wine. we were literally 2 of the 4 patrons there!
when the waitress came to clear our plates, she rhetorically asks us "so the food was awful eh?" as she picked up our plates and walks away. WTF. Honestly, the owners need new wait staff. why even ask a question or say anything? it's totally inappropriate and patronizing to customers. either actually care about what your customers think, or don't bother. asking a rhetorical question at the end of a god awful dining experience only emphasizes the bad time we had there. will never recommend to anyone.
