God bless Boom 97.3 for taking me back to the halcyon days of my youth. It sure helps the day roll along when I'm stuck at work, where I only have a boom box and no audio on the PC :(
My clients ( I work in a store) also enjoy listening to Boom and I feel it really puts them at ease while they shop. The only occupational hazard of this is that some custies hum along, more so the tone deaf ones of course!
Boom 97.3 even presents great contests that send listeners to concerts around the world to see the likes of Sting, Foreigner & gasp Billy Idol! my post apocolyptic peroxided rockabilly crush of the 80's.
In brief, here's my rundown of Boom97.3
Loves
*********
That they play a steady supply of Neil Young, Heart and
Fleetwood Mac
What they should play a little more of
********************************************
The Smiths, New order, Depeche Mode more please!
What I don't love
********************
The fact that they play Rough Trade "High School Confidential" like 5 times a day.
I realize it's for the benefit of Can Con and it's representative of our amazing local talent, but I can only bear to hear Carole Pope vocalize about "creaming her jeans" so many times a week!
What is severely Lacking
*****************************
Although Boom 97.3 plays its fair share of retro rock & alternative classics
I can literally count on my one hand the Soul/R&B artists they regularly play, those being;
Prince, Cameo and Morris Day and the "m$th@f%*#ing Time!
What about classic gems from the likes of:
Oran Juice Jones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZXe_xeWg48&feature=related
Nenah Cherry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2nZJSmIJqA&feature=related
and my personal fave from way back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8BY86AO5Bs&feature=related
Maybe this will be impetus for Astral Media who owns Boom 97.3 to create a spin off old school R&B station?
I you love music from the 70's, 80's and 90's that's mainly of the easy rock and alternative ilk and you're too lazy to put together a decent playlist on your ITunes/MP3 then Boom97.3 will have you strolling down musical memory lane.
