My girlfriend and I went in to buy a pair of frames and lenses. I was buying them for her as a present.
We found a gorgeous pair of Allied Metal Works frames. At $500+ for the frames alone I was stretching the top-end of my budget, but we decided to go for it anyways (they looked incredible). The sales folks were very pleasant and I felt good about getting them for her.
Then we were directed to the "lab guy". That's where the good experience ended. He pushed hard for us to go for the top-of-the-line pair of lenses, which with the frames came out to $955. When I asked for a comparison price between the super lenses and the standard lenses (that I have in my own glasses, purchased from Spectacle years ago that I've been quite happy with), he made a comment that "these are for her, though". A bizarre and somewhat aggressive response to a legitimate question. He eventually provided the comparison quote between the different lenses, but that comment put me off so much that we aborted and left.
Too bad, the lenses looked great!
