| - OMG, what a place!!!! What incredible people that run this place, too! I adore them.
As someone who now sports an ambassador lapel pin for this exquisite convention centre, I feel I must gush on about how amazing it is. I recently attended the Gala Reconnaissance, where I was fêted like royalty. I was one of their award winners that night, so I was given special treatment, but my guests were also pampered and impeccably catered to, leaving them glowing like little lanterns.
Everything about the Palais des Congrès is grand, refined, and cared for. I had the thrill of walking up a red carpet to the VIP lounge and was utterly gob-smacked when I saw how gorgeously decked out they had the very large conference room for the event. The hospitality was flawless, and the various hosts for the evening were each warm and gallant. Before I received my prize, several ambassadors were honoured, such as Montreal mayor, Denis Coderre, as well as former MLA, Sheila Copps. Hanging out with the renowned Ms Copps backstage was one of the many, many highlights of my evening. These high profile people are among the numerous movers and shakers that make the Palais, and Montreal, what it is reputed to be: world class. I believe Tourism Quebec partnered on this event as well, so it was doubly grand.
The tech support for the event was actually out of this world - I've never experienced such impressive video display, light choreography and audio. The animated display even had architectural structures built specifically to give shape to the projections. Everything went off without a hitch. It was so dazzling. I know that a lot of invisible people did amazing work to make this event what it was. I met the director of the Palais, who was a friendly, big-hearted gentleman, so proud and so deeply invested in what the Palais is. His pride and investment shows in every aspect of what goes on here.
Also for the event, seven of Montreal's finest chefs were brought in to prepare a "gastronomic symphony" for all of the guests, and we were treated to a five-course meal while a smooth, classy band played on stage. There were no vegetarian dishes to be found on the menu, but when we requested a vegetarian alternative for one of my guests, the chefs were more than happy to whip up something special on the spot and deliver it with a smile! This is going to seem funny, but this gastronomic symphony was my first time trying fois gras! I'm hooked, I GET IT, I see why everyone is coo-coo about this delicacy. It was to-die-for.
Now, I know my review of the Palais des Congrès is centred around one event, but this was a hallmark event for the Palais. I felt enriched by the culture at the very heart of Montreal, which is situated in this colourful, plush architecture. I could see that all the Palais staff and directors were working extremely hard to make this event special beyond expectation and they certainly succeeded.
