  • Wow. I don't know where to start. I guess we'll start with the good. - Excellent customer service - Room was clean - Quick ride from airport And here's the rest. So I'm in town for a conference, and decided to just stay here, where my conference was held, out of convenience. I was fooled by the description of it being recently renovated and the relatively cheap conference rates. I should've used my better judgment. As we were driving up, I was a little shocked. No fancy vegas signage or decoration, no indication other than a small static sign that it was even the Tropicana. The entire property has been spray painted white. Everywhere your eye rests has been painted white. Like they primed the building and forgot to paint over it. Even the windows have been completely covered with a white film. Again, no Vegas strip style or glitz. It looks like an abandoned hospital with boarded up windows. As you enter the hotel, there's a pretty restored arcade ceiling, the only indication of this being from a bygone Vegas era. The rest of the casino is tired and old looking, with about half of the machines shut off with tags over them. The common areas near the tired theatre all looked abandoned and dark. Again everything your eye rests on is white. Minimal artwork or decoration. Certainly no younger people. So at check in, the receptionist was very helpful, and even though I had been booked for a smoking floor, promptly moved my room when I told her I can't stand the smell of smoke in my room. She assured me that this floor was nonsmoking and it would be fine. Then as she handed me my warm cookie, she hacked a wet cough into her hand and passed me my cookie. BARF. I was initially assigned to the Club Tower, which is a good 5-10 minute walk through the casino, up an escalator, and all the way to the back of the property. My room was billed as a mini suite with a view of the strip. I got a view of the airport with a blocked view of the South Strip, which no casinos are on. All the casinos are North of here. The room reeked of smoke, so I went back all the way to the desk and was reassigned another room in the Paradise tower which is right off the entrance. That room was very roomy, but very sparsely furnished. I did finally get a nice view of the Strip. It had many windows, but all were completely covered with white film, so good luck getting a photo out your own window. While the hallway was nicely renovated, the room was a total disappointment. There was one painting in the room, the ONLY decoration. Every wall was blank white. Every piece of furniture in the room appeared to be secondhand. Made of rattan or wicker. The couch didn't even have cushions, just a orange seat and rattan arms and back. Table lamps were fake bamboo. Bed was fake bamboo. Bathroom had cracked old blue tiles. The AC in both the living room and bedroom didn't work correctly requiring a call to the front desk. The bed was old and pillows were lumpy. It looked like this room was furnished out of a nursing home or Golden Girls set. Unacceptable for a hotel boasting a recent renovation, and claiming to be trendy. Hotel restaurants were observed to be mostly empty during my stay. I didn't dine in any of them. Tiny food court, no buffet. Pool area appeared to be partially roped off. Very limited chairs, and most were reserved and available for an additional fee. Once the few free chairs were taken, most patrons resorted to laying on the grass near the pool. No parties, DJ, activities, or trendy things of any kind were seen at the pool for the 7 days I was here. You can't bring any food or drinks in, even purchased at the hotel. Not even water. The SkyBeach Club was empty and roped off. Everything in sight is spray painted white, except for "Staples"-red awnings and fabrics. Nothing looked trendy or tropical. Everything looked cheap, cheap cheap. And get this, the pool closes at 6. 6PM!!! Any vegas hotel worth their salt has a hopping pool area until late at night. The conference area was awful. The rooms look like a DHL (mustard yellow and staples-red) warehouse. Harsh fluorescent lights, stained tablecloths and an awful selection of food. Not a chandelier or decoration in sight. Nowhere to sit or gather outside the room. Stay here and you'll notice that there's nothing going on here. Everyone is leaving the Tropicana and heading to other hotels on the strip. I've been inside all the major casino hotels on the Strip during this stay, and even Excalibur and Circus Circus have more going on. Every day and night I left to go elsewhere for food and entertainment. For a pool that is actually fun and inviting and has chairs to sit in. To see anyone else under 50.
