| - First Time in Vegas and I stayed here. I liked it. Not quite Five Stars but with no disrespect. In comparison to the rest of the places on the Strip, I think this is a fair review.
Basically: The Stratosphere is located at the upper end of the Vegas Strip. It's a bit removed from the main area where most people (tourists) are. This is both a plus and a minus. Plus because it's unique in being on something of an island in an otherwise sketchy surrounding area. If you're OK with being a bit removed from the full Vegas experience, you'll be fine, esp. if you can deal with said surroundings. Negative are those surrounding. Not the greatest. I didn't feel at harm, but it sure wasn't as "pleasant" as some place more centrally-located.
But this is a great place. The tower is, of course, it's highlighted feature. You can go up and get great views of the surrounds of Vegas. Def a plus. The hotel-casino environment is a little more subdued...Not quite the glitz, pomp, and circumstance as the other Vegas locales on the Strip. The casino was relatively small and less-populated. But it makes up for this, or is enhanced because it's less congested and overwhelming. A plus. The hotel has two pools, a small mall, convenient parking, and all the requisite things you'll want in a hotel in Vegas. The staff was friendly and the place stylish enough. My room was great (for me). It had a small living area with a wall that separated the sleeping area. The bathroom was small but OK. A full-length mirror was a nice touch and the frig. was a great thing to have. The bed was soft and I liked the plastic signature cups provided. Even the toiletries were nice. This for $34/night on a weekday in July. Slower time for sure but very much a bargain and worth it and more!
Even though it's a bit away from things you can still get around, which is huge. You can walk to the monorail, take the Strip bus to the other areas and even get a bus that goes directly to the airport ( The #108...make a note of it !). There's a large souvenir shop down the street and nearby Circle K and Walgreen's for anything you might want (for that frig.)
Overall, I imagine there are nicer, more convenient options, but this place is not bad at all. In fact, because it's a bit removed, it makes being in Vegas a bit less overwhelming....while still being convenient enough to get around and do whatever you want. Plus the Tower...very much a bonus. I'll be back to Vegas and I'm sure I'll probably stay here. I will be happy to do so !
Oh....watching people do the SkyJump is an extra added plus. Listening to them scream and seeing figures drop from the sky, day and night were something interesting and fun to experience...Surely not what someone may have expected when planning the place, but a unique feature to the place.
A couple things that were not-so-great was the long check-in/check-out line (but you can express check out). I also didn't like having the elevator make so many stops, up and down almost every ride. Don't think there's anything that can be done about the elevator rides but the check in line? Yeah, you need a couple more people working for that...
