  • Every eight years, I have to go to the DMV to renew my license. I think you can surmise how much the population of Las Vegas has grown during the past eight years, just by seeing the crowds at the DMV. The whole system of waiting has changed. It used to be that you walk in, get a ticket for the particular service you need (renew license, registration, new license plates, etc), and wait for your number to be called. Eight years ago, it took roughly an hour in and out. Today, almost three hours. When I walked in at 3 PM, there was no place to get a ticket. There was no one to ask what to do. So, I figured that I'd go to the information booth. There was a line 100 people deep, just to get to the information booth. I thought I was on Candid Camera. I even called the DMV while I was there, because I couldn't believe it. Well, the customer service girl said that this was the way it worked now. So, I waited in line for 45 minutes just to talk to the information people. When I got to the front of the line, the computers went down. No joke. I was the very next person to get to the desk. I asked the lady how long it would take before the computers started working again, and she said that it could be minutes, hours, or for the rest of the day. Luckily, they started working again in about 15 minutes. So, I got my number. Well, my waiting had just begun. It was two hours before they called my number. In fact, the place had closed the doors at 5 PM, but since I was inside, I could still wait wait. Here's some good news...The lady that did the license renewal was very, very nice. She explained in detail, how my temporary license would work, that I should check mark all of my information, to make sure it was correct, and then she directed me to the photo place. It was nearing 6 PM, so there was no line at the photo place. The girl took my picture, explained again how my temporary license worked. Maybe they explained it carefully because I'm old, but I won't complain. They said that I would get the new license in two weeks, and I left for home. So, the looong wait plus the nice service, averaged out to three stars.
