Post Gazette announced today (2-3-17) Cibo will be closing. No, they will be relocating. Keep an eye out. Wonderful meal. Excellent, unpretentious service. There were 4 of us and we decided to go with a lot of small plates. Cibo gives you the option of small plates or large on most of their pasta dishes. Had the elk carpaccio and duck confit. Elk was lean, not gamey with EVOO and fennel pollen. (Where can I get a bag of this stuff?) Duck was a very large drumstick, yieding 4 large (for an app) portions. Next came homemade farfalle with mushrooms - so good. Eggplant parm-not your pixburgh eggplant parm. The eggplant still had some body to it and their was just a dash of cinnamon in the sauce, giving it a North African vibe. Wine braised beef must have been braised for a day at least; excellent. Had the gnudi. Get them, trust me. Cibo is BYOB, which I like. They charge $5 a bottle, have appropriate stemware AND they gave us a decanter for the 1994 montepulciano. Decor simple; they have local artists displayed on the walls. Volume level is OK. Restaurant is all one level so it appears wheelchair accessible. Bathroom is unisex. This is the kind of restaurant that makes Pittsburgh such a great food scene. Go before they close and look forward to their reopening.
