  • #159 Alright, I admit it; I loathe fast food places such as this. The food is excessively priced for the quality and the service bites (and not the good kind of biting). So Friday lunch, Sascha F. says he is feeling like McD's and I'm like, seriously??!! WTF?? So, reluctantly, I tag along to this location since it is near my client (I have gone several times but normally just use the drive-thru). It was not busy inside which is nice. Upon entering, it was very clean and we were approached by some friendly staff (so not Canadian) including Ruth (the other lady with her is Kim). They have these kiosks that apparently has a Create your own burger theme which starts out at $7.49. So, the gist is that you pick your toppings and such, it is then sent to the kitchen, and you get your order. These are debit/credit card only but if you go through the menu, you can say Cash and you are directed to the normal counter. Okay, so I figured what the hell, I got time. By this time, Ruth is chatting me up and tells me that until the end of June, I get free fries and drink with this (I loathe their fries; have not eaten since 2000 after seeing 'Supersize Me'). I say okay; I'll give the fries to my friend. Ruth walks me through the touch screen interface explaining all the different items I can put on my burger (which is Angus by the way.. way to go earls kitchen + bar and it's subsidiaries such as Cactus Club Cafe shunning Alberta beef) such as red onions, leafy lettuce, tomatoes, long pickles, mustard, and get this.. only on this create your own, SRIRACHA. I got extra red onions, sriracha, and 10x the long pickles. I added a 2nd Angus patty for $2 and added natural cheddar cheese (a small surcharge). This ended up being $11 including 5% GST. Ruth then gives me a device and directs me to put the device number on my order, to presumably get the finished product. Before sitting down, she asks if I would rather have a side salad (Caesar or garden) instead of fries. I said yes and in a few minutes, it arrived with Pure Kraft Balsamic Vinaigrette. The salad was fresh including onions, tomatoes, croutons, etc. The side salad was actually pretty large AND FRESH! Moments later, the burger arrives and OMG, WTH??? This is McDonald's but this burger was f'ing delicieux! This burger is so NOT McDonald's! The meat tasted so so so so good; the toppings, like the salad, oh so fresh and AMPLE. If someone pinches me, I'm gonna beat you with a baseball bat; don't wake me from this dream. This was the best burger I have had in quite a while (Clive Burger dropped the ball through the floor months ago it seems). For the first time, I did not feel bloated or sick after eating something there. Now, if we can get unsweetened Iced Tea, this would be perfect. Summary, best to use the Create your own burger kiosk (especially with free fries/salad and fountain drink until June) to get the best burger done your way! Say hi to Ruth; very nice lady!
