  • Let me start on a positive note. This is a charming restaurant. We arrived at 6:45 and our table was ready. When I made the reservation I let them know we had 2 vegetarians and that both couples were celebrating our 20th anniversaries. I wasn't very hungry so I decided to order a side of roasted summer squash. I love squash but this was hardly edible, the skin was tough and the insides were mushy, I set the squash aside and ate the tomatoes and corn that were drowning in some white creamy sauce, there was supposed to be feta on this but I did not see it or taste it. Two people in of our party ordered the Taste of Summer. They started with the crab stuffed squash blossom which lost it's flavor when they fried it. It tasted like crab rangoon from any old chinese restaurant. My husband had the roasted Petaluma chicken AZ cheddar mashed potatoes, broccolini, sweet onion jus. The presentation of the chicken was just weird, it was a skin on chicken breast cut in half then placed over what appeared to be a thigh bone. The meat was dry, the potatoes were average. Our other dinner companion had the seared Scottish salmon braised baby fennel & artichokes, olives, citrus jus. She ate half her meal because she didn't think it was very good. The salmon was dry and lacked flavor. The one good meal on the table was the Alaskan halibut & Kauai shrimp, local farro, peas, green garlic, shaved radishes, chorizo broth. So if you are going I recommend this one. The halibut was cooked perfectly and the farro was delicious. We all tried each other's meals just to see if anything was as good as we had anticipated it would be. We agreed on the halibut. We asked if there were vegetarian options for this meal (minus the chorizo broth) . Our waiter responded that it wouldn't be a problem and he saw the note that we had 2 vegetarians and 2 anniversaries. If he saw the note we should not have had to ask. However, when we ordered dessert they didn't write Happy Anniversary, light a candle or do anything. They just brought the desserts out. Our waiter was never around when we needed something, he appeard to be busy at large table across the room. I waited 10 minutes to get a refill on my drink. If this review was based solely on dinner and ambiance, it would easily be 4 stars. However, the service was pretty bad, especially for a $100+ meal. The waiter was friendly but a bit abrupt, beyond slow, and inattentive. Manny the guy who filled the water and cleaned the table was extremely attentive and friendly. We had to ask him for more bread and to find our waiter at one point. We ordered the cobbler special and received this peach thing that was in a crust so hard someone could have chipped a tooth. Such a shame. It really is quite pretty in the evening with sparkling lights. This meal was a huge disappointment because we heard so many wonderful reviews about the food & service we had pretty high expectations. We will return to the resort because it's a beautiful place to get away to but next time I will drive down the street and go to Tarbell's.
