After reading Raj's review I bookmarked this spot and looked forward to when I could check it out, because who doesn't love a hidden bar and most importantly a perfect cocktail. And that is what you will find at Cloakroom. But don't tell anyone.
The head bartender Simon is a gentle wonder. There are no cocktail menus here, and he can make you any classic cocktail you might want, or you can describe to him what you like and feel like and he will chat with you about some ideas, and then make you something fascinating and delicious. This is the best cocktail experience I have had so far in Montreal.
You will feel a little lost on your way here, we are awfully close to Crescent, which most lifelong Montrealers tend to associate with tourists and the Formula One circus, but you are also up near the Fine Arts Museum and the Golden Mile and expensive and beautiful high quality clothing. Cloakroom is one of these on the surface so don't be confused when you walk up the stairs to a beautiful old Victorian building full of bespoke menswear. When you walk in the front door the clothing will be too your right, but directly in front of you there is a wooden wall that is actually a door. Open this door and you will find the slim charcoal dark bar where about 12 people can comfortable imbibe. An elegant and delicious surprise and definitely an amazing addition to the area.
