We chose to go to Rania's for dinner based on the Yelp reviews. I had expected great things and was slightly disappointed. To be fair, this was my first time having Afghani food. But, I eat a lot of Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Indian food. I expected this to fall somewhere in the middle. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either, which knocks it from a 5-star to a 3-star. All of our dishes seemed to be the slightly-less-flavorful-brother of food we like.
On top of that, I am knocking off another star because of the service. When we asked questions about the menu, the server said she didn't know because she had never eaten any of the dishes we asked about. She said that 'people don't send it back to the kitchen, so it should be okay.' I don't want to bad-mouth someone who was possibly having a rough day, but when it's all said and done, she was not very attentive (there were two servers and less than 4 tables occupied in the whole restaurant!).
