| - SETTING
Standard Asian grocery store vibe. White tiles, fluorescent lights, the smells, lots of people speaking Mandarin Chinese. On the intercom, they played Chinese pop/R&B music that got me reminiscing about my Jay Chou phase back in the day. Plenty of people shop here for their asian goods, which makes things a bit crowded and busy here.
FOOD
Leans toward Chinese groceries/goods with their selection of frozen foods (dumplings, scallion pancakes, etc) and snacks, but it also caters to most asian cultural foods with common vegetables (bok choy, napa cabbage, etc). Lots of Chinese-speaking workers and customers who seem knowledgeable about where things are placed if you need to find them. Oh, and fresh and inexpensive tofu on a cart!!! YES!
Not many fresh seafood offerings, probably better to walk a few minutes over to Wholey's.
IMPRESSIONS
Small to Medium sized grocery store, but probably the most comprehensive in terms asian food offerings in Pittsburgh. Has most things you need, except for tissues if you're Asian-American/Asian like me and get a little bit homesick every time you step foot in Lotus. Somebody give me a hug!
