  • My daughter's chihuahua was attacked by another small dog. When we found her we rushed her to VCA Hualapai Animal Hospital. The doctor told my daughter it looked like her dog had emphysema from the small puncture wounds that could be treated, and she was very hopeful of a positive outcome. This lead my daughter to believe that her dog was going to be fine. After about an hour they called my daughter back and told her the dog is having difficulty breathing and it looks like there can be a tear in her trachea (which I'm sure was caused by them inserting tubing down her throat), and suggested the dog get transported to a specialist surgeon. Before, my daughter left her dog there for treatment, NOTHING was mentioned about her trachea. At that point I went to see our dog and ask about the costs. Well, the bill was now at $1100. This is all in a matter of 2 hours! $1100 of treatment that only consisted of X-rays, oxygen and pain pills. How could they have possibly given her all $1100 worth of treatment in 2 hours, before they decided to transport her to a surgeon? When I questioned them about their actions, I could not get a simple answer. They kept telling me the doctor was in surgery and could not speak to us. The office manager couldn't even tell us her vitals and did not have them in writing, but had all the heinous charges printed out. She couldn't even confirm there was a tear in the trachea stating," We can only assume, by looking at the X-rays, and once again I cannot confirm because, the doctor is in surgery." After I declined to have our dog transported to the specialist surgeon and suggested she stay there to finish her treatment I was already charged for, they called about 3 hours later and said our baby died. I believe they purposely cut her from the oxygen or euthanized her, because we declined to have her transported and were going to bring her home. The doctor tricked my daughter into believing her dog would be fine, so she could agree to treatment, in order to collect $1100. They are a bunch of heartless, incompetent crooks who clearly took advantage of a young girl in distress! I am now in the process of seeing what legal action can be taken against them.
