| - The phrase "Good things come to those who wait" comes to mind regarding Hubbard Avenue Diner.
This is a suburban diner that is quite popular. Located in the heart of the 'downtown' of a bedroom community, there is always a wait even mid-afternoon.
I come here strictly for the fried chicken special as I get my fry on the outside and do not cook that way at home. 5/5 on the chicken, veg, and mash! I don't know of a better place to get fried chicken than this. Fresh, hot, crispy.
Dining companions have got a variety of things. Fish, mehh. Burgers, acceptable. We discovered brunch exists on this most recent stop! Quiche comes with two options. The hash brown base was quite thick; we will select the pie base next time. In short, ask questions about preparation, etc. if you are concerned with high satisfaction on your entree.
As you may expect from a place that celebrates the numeral 3.14 with a Pie Day event, and pi t-shirts on the staff, the pies are where its at. Blueberry is my depth on that and its superb. Typically I get cake! They are high! They are mighty! They are classic! They are tasty! I'm a regular for carrot cake.
One star removed because the cookies have been stale 100 percent of the time. I don't know why but 100 percent of the time over several years the cookies are no good. Kids deserve quality items and I think they are getting ripped off along with the parents paying for them!
One star deduction because servers don't make it back after the food has been delivered! Staffing is lighter than it needs to be in this always-packed establishment. Management isn't visible. Perhaps they could check on folks and refill drinks! I can't say I've had friendly service here. People appear too busy to be pleasant.
Rating is not helped by the seating/decor. Go here with companions you enjoying conversation with because there is nothing else in the place to entertain you!
In summary, this is a reliable place for a decent meal when you have plenty of time. They know they are the pie place so dining menu is playing second fiddle. Value the wait time by perusing the pie case. Study the choices for the dessert decision that inevitably awaits!
