| - When it starts getting warm out, I'm not a big fan of cooking, baking, or anything that generates heat. (Maybe I live in the wrong climate ....?) Anyway, I'm all about fresh salads, salsas, and other cold dishes, and that means some fresh produce is in order!
I've been craving bruschetta lately and decided to check out this market for the first time on a recent Saturday to pick up ingredients. For $4 a pound I found beautiful multicolor cherry & grape tomatoes as well as some heirloom varieties. Another vendor who specializes in aquaponics-grown, pesticide-free lettuces & herbs had HUGE basil plants for only $3.50. Not taking my bruschetta mission lightly, Noble Bread has the perfect fresh baked loaves. I also got delicious Capistrano's Bakery raisin bread from the same vendor, which has made a great quick breakfast throughout the workweek.
I've been to the downtown Phoenix farmers market too, but it seems like this Uptown one has more produce/food vendors, whereas downtown has more arts/crafts ones & food trucks. Definitely check it out the Uptown market on a Wednesday or Saturday if you live in the area, though I'd recommend entering the parking lot from Central Ave rather than Bethany Home, to avoid the crowds who are walking between the market and the lot.
