| - This morning, I read an article about the "Streisand Effect", wherein one draws more public attention to something negative by saying about it, than if one just left it alone.
I am concerned that by writing about this store, I may inadvertently draw attention to a place that I feel deserves a slow, lonely death. The momentary joy afforded by a "First To Review" badge would be tempered by the knowledge that some unfortunate soul, wandering through Vaughan Mills, might decide to stop here, and peruse.
If such a lost, tormented soul were to do so, he would be 'greeted' by the owner. If said soul were an attractive female, she might possibly replace 'greeted' with 'leered' (said owner's wife being off lifting some heavy box somewhere, without help). If said soul were the sort who was subject to profiling, he or she might possibly replace 'greeted' with 'scowled' or 'chased out of the store'. I would never state this to be a fact, merely an honest belief based on passing observation.
Walk into the store and you're greeted by random stacks of bric-a-brac. Models, pens, shaving equipment; the kinds of things that are meant to evoke a certain kind of European sophistication, but here come across as overpriced, pretentious junk. Assuming you pass the ID test, staff fawn over you and lead you to a humidor, with a decent selection of cigars at horribly high prices.
I hope that this review is posted at a high-volume time of day, so it is drowned out by reviews of places that deserve the exposure this forum provides. Purely my opinion, but when it comes to a good smoke, Havana's just a bad joke.
