| - My grandmother left us today at 10:26 AM.
But she did so without pain, in her home, surrounded by family that loved her very much.
Trisha, the admissions nurse for Nathan Adelson, spent countless hours facilitating my grandmother's transport from Valley Hospital to her home. She put in 14+ hour days. She listened to everyone tell stories, she got my grandma everything she wanted and needed, she dealt with my entire family and answered every question, even though most of them were asked 10 times.
My grandmother was never in the facility, but she had all of the best treatment from their staff during her final moments. The nurse was there at the home when my grandma arrived. They had a respiratory therapist there to teach us how to use the BiPAP machine and give her respiratory treatments, feed her, etc.
A nurse came yesterday, my last day with her, and was the most honest out of every health professional that has seen her. She didn't sugarcoat anything and told us that it was time to say goodbye. She had to do things for my grandmother that no other nurse did in the hospital.
She was so compassionate. Everyone was.
You can call as often as you want for services. It depends on what you want.
She just happened to go very quickly once she got home, so there was someone there every day, because even with everyone in my family being there, it was hard for us to take a break for ourselves and shower, eat, rest. That's what they're there for.
They have bereavement counseling available for 13 months after you lose someone.
My grandmother was a devout Catholic, so we even had a Chaplain from Nathan Adelson come to the home to give her last rights and anoint her with oils.
They are helping to facilitate the next transition.
Horrible things are sometimes said about places like this, but in my [two] experiences, they make everything so much easier on the family and much less worrisome. Because of them, I got to spend more valuable time with my grandma than what I would've had in the hospital.
Thanks to every Nathan Adelson staff member that helped my family go through this tough time.
