  • I was so excited to finally get the chance to visit the OdySea Aquarium and see all they had to offer. I have been to aquariums in Seattle, San Francisco, and San Diego, so I had high hopes for this one as well. The surrounding area is lovely and well done; it has several shops and plenty of places to eat and entertain yourself as well as the kiddos. Unfortunately that was the highlight of the trip... Admission is expensive, but it's expensive to care for all the animals and maintain the facility, so I had no problem paying the asking price. Once inside there is an immediate and overpowering smell of rotten fish; it's horrible. I understand it's an aquarium, but it did not smell fresh and I have never been to one before that smelled like this. That was a red flag. The ticket taker told us to check out the bathroom and I must say it was amazing!!! I walked inside and was greeted by the most incredible shark tank/mirror I have ever seen...so cool! Sharks swim by as music plays and it takes you into their underwater world. After seeing the bathroom I expected everything else to be spectacular...but it was far from it. There were lots of different fish and exhibits, but some of the animals didn't look healthy and some little fish were even dead in the tanks. The signs to inform you of what you are looking at were hard to find sometimes, and it wasn't an excited and engaging learning environment. Kids and adults looked bored and I'm sad to say that besides company, I was too. I hate to give it 2 stars, but my experience doesn't deserve any more than that. The aquarium was dirty and not well kept, the animals didn't seem cared for, it was not interesting or engaging, and doesn't hold a candle to other aquariums. I suggest saving your money and go to the science center or something else worthwhile.
