  • Worst travel experience EVER!! My sister and I were traveling to Springfield, Missouri to see our niece graduate from Evangel University. Our flight was scheduled to leave Pittsburgh at 7:39 pm, have a 45 minute layover in Chicago and arrive in Springfield at 11:05pm. When we arrived at PIT and went to check in, we were told by an EXTREMELY RUDE agent (gosh, I wish I had gotten her name, but I couldn't think clearly at that point)that our flight had been canceled and that we were rebooked for the next day at 5:40pm. Well, that wasn't going to work for us because the graduation ceremony was at 9:30am the next day. When I asked why they would do this without checking with me first, I was told it was because I had booked with a 3rd party (Expedia). I did get an email from Expedia MUCH later, but all it said was that we had been rebooked - no one ever asked if this rebooking would work for us. . . The United agent that we had the misfortune of approaching was SO not helpful, even when I began to cry at the thought of having to cancel our trip and miss our niece's graduation. We checked Southwest and Jet Blue ourselves, but couldn't find a flight. After we took a few minutes to "regroup," we thought it might be worth it to try a different agent. BOY am I glad we did!! THANK YOU SHARON!!! She managed to find us spots on another flight to Chicago that would get us to Springfield by 12:15am!! If it wasn't for Sharon, we would have missed the graduation, so we are forever grateful to her!!! Just before boarding the flight, however, we were "bullied" into checking our carry on bags. We had not checked any other bags and were very reluctant to do this, but, as I said, we felt a bit bullied into it. We were assigned to Group 4 to board the flight and, after about 10 times of the agent "suggesting" that we check our bags, she said "If you are in group 4 or higher, you might as well check your bags because there will be NO overhead space by the time you board." We felt we had no other choice. Wouldn't you know it, when we arrived in Springfield at 12:30am our bags were NOT there!! The agent there told us they were still in Chicago and could not be delivered until 10:30am the next day. This presented a HUGE problem since, as mentioned before, the graduation ceremony was at 9:30am. Also, because we had not planned on checking our bags, all of my medications were in my bag (my thyroid medication being the most important). Because of this, my sister and I had to get up at 6am and make a trip to Wal Mart (the only thing open at that time) to buy new clothes and toiletries. Which, of course, was very big inconvenience. The bags did arrive the next day, but not until 2pm (not at 10:30am, as promised). As you can imagine, because of this, WE WILL NEVER FLY UNITED OR USE EXPEDIA AGAIN!! Lesson learned!!!
