I arrived in Toronto from Boston on Friday afternoon and looked up bike rental spots from my phone before taking public transport from the airport straight to Bateman's (the bicycle rental location is right across the street from the shop). I waltzed in and gotta mega deal for the weekend on a sweet hybrid small enough for my child-height adult body within moments. The dude working at the shop couldn't have been more chill nor more helpful getting me set up with a bike, helmet, and lock for my weekend in Toronto for a crazy reasonable price. It was SO nice to see the lovely city like a local, easily getting from one nook of town to the next without paying for inconvenient street cars and pricey cabs/ubers. If you're traveling and don't want to be married to roaming charges and apps on your phone, I'd definitely recommend skipping the unglamorous bike shares* you have to return somewhere every half hour in favor of getting a sweet ride from the nice dude at Bateman's.
*I am very happy that city bikes are a thing. Please don't take this as a blow. They're affordable and convenient and do great things for urban environments. Yay, bike shares! Helmet shares should be next!
