  • I have heard nothing but good things about this hospital--during our last open enrollment meeting I heard coworkers say that they wouldn't go anywhere else but here. So when I heard that my daughter had decided to have her first baby here, I was happy because I thought it would be a great experience for her. Well, after being involved with her experience, I have to say that this is honestly the one of the LAST hospitals I will ever consider going to. After going into labor last Thursday, and having strong contractions, my daughter went to L&D only to be sent home by a doctor who was very short with her. He told her that she had had no change from her dr's appointment the day before, he was sending her home, don't come back until her contractions were five minutes apart for an hour, and good luck. He left her feeling like her labor pains were completely unproductive, but the funny thing was that there HAD been a change from her appointment the day before. She went back the next day, with contractions that were about 2-5 minutes apart, but because she still hadn't dilated more than 2cm, they sent her home again. On Sunday morning, even though she was having strong contractions, I had to talk her into going into the hospital because she was convinced that they were going to send her home again, and she didn't want to leave without her baby in her arms. She was just going to stay home and wait until her water broke before she went in. I finally convinced her to call L&D and describe what she was feeling, and they told her to come in. She was finally admitted that day. She had decided beforehand that she wanted to try natural childbirth, and that she wanted me to be there with her. When she finally got into a room, her labor nurse was extremely rude to me. She never even asked me my name until AFTER I had left and come back with my grandbaby's daddy and asked his name. Mind you, had walked with her down to her room when she was checked in. During my daughter's labor, this nurse COMPLETELY IGNORED anything I tried to tell her about what my daughter had said to me while she was out of the room-- I felt completely invisible, and even my daughter's boyfriend noticed how I was being treated. That is, until my daughter agreed to have an epidural. After that, this nurse was all smiles and laughter. It gave me the impression that she thought I was trying to force my daughter to try and have a natural birth. But I'm not that kind of mother--everything was completely my daughter's choice, and honestly, had I been in her position, I would have made the EXACT same choice! Even the lady who came in to do the epidural was rude. She and the nurse raised their voices to my daughter because while my daughter was trying to get into position, she had an intense contraction and sat up. I thought things would get better after she delivered, but it seemed to me it was only good for me as long as I had no contact with any nurses. This evening, I went up to visit my daughter and granddaughter who is now in the NICU. Again, I was treated as if I was invisible--even after I introduced myself as Grandma. One particular nurse interrupted me in the middle of my sentence, saying "Are you related?" And even after I said, "I'm her mother" didn't allow me to finish what I was saying and continued talking to my daughter as if I didn't matter at all. I felt completely helpless and useless and totally disrespected, so I left a few minutes later, nearly in tears. Even though I am 44 years old, I know that I don't look my age, let alone look old enough to be a grandmother, but that is no reason for them to treat me this way. I should be so happy to see the newest member of my family--but instead I am nearly in tears because I have been continually treated like crap here.I will not visit my daughter and granddaughter again until they are at home. Tonight was the last night I will EVER step foot on this hospital's grounds again and I will absolutely NEVER seek care at this place--EVER! Oh and I forgot to add that they didn't even take a newborn picture of my granddaughter!
