  • Last Friday I decided that for my 40th(I can't believe I'm admitting my age)birthday that I would treat myself and have some toxins shot into my face. So in the back of one of my fag rags(I'm sorry, gay publications... no emails please) there was an ad for Body Az Aesthetics Medspa offering all these fabulous sevices at fairly reasonable prices. Upon entering the spa, that is located in a primarily residential area & not the best area at that(which is why I assumed that the prices were so good)I was greeted by a friendly, overly made up young woman, who had some skin challenges. I inquired about my services of choice & was handed a bunch of forms & waivers to fill out, okay okay I told myself there's a doctors name on the door so this is gonna be like an office visit to my PCP. Well, after all the forms are filled out I get taken to the room to consult with the doctor and in walks this craggy faced man with most rancid breath you can imagine, who didn't even bother to introduce himself. I should have gotten up to leave then, I mean really I was there to receive all of these injectables from a guy who could have used more than a few treatments himself(that old phrase physician heal thyself instantly came to mind.) However shortly after what hardly constituted a consult(he spent more time figuring out my ability to pay) I was having the Botulism shot into my forehead not the brand that I asked for mind you, the one that the doctor talked me into. To the doctors credit I have to say that I wanted a procedure that he said I didn't need and he recomended a facial instead. Three minutes & $350 later my visit with the doctor was over, he sent in the esthetician to consult & set up my facial & guess who it was, that's right, the overly made up girl with the bad skin, really? Okay, okay I tell myself I cut hair & I happen to be bald, I still know how to cut hair so perhaps the same is true in her case. So we set my appointment with her for the following Friday. The day of my facial I showed up to either cancel my appointment or get squeezed in then & there and I was obliged. Before getting taken to the facial room I encountered the doctor and explained that the injectables I received a week earlier only seemed to work on one side and I demonstrated the fact to him, the long & the short of his response was that I needed more but was gonna have to pay for it. If I could have raised both my eyebrows he would have been able to see the shock on my face. Blanca, whom I'm assuming is the office manager was the most pleasant thing about the medspa, she was beautiful, friendly & professional but she overheard this exchange between me & the doctor and was just as shocked as I was. Blanca assured me that after my facial the additional shots would be administered at no cost to me and she delivered on that promise but I suspect it was without the doctors knowledge. Before giving me the additon units, while he was under the impression that I was paying for the shots, he said to the young woman that was helping him prep me, "Let's hurry & get him(refering to me)done & outta here." What? This guy thought I was paying an additonal $80 on top of the $350 I gave him last week & he's tryin' to show me the door? I just thought to myself don't worry buddy you won't ever have to worry seeing this half deadend face again or the faces of my dead presidents. Blanca needs to take her beauty & grace to a spa that is worthy of the name because she is currently working in converted office space that offers a few spalike services. As for my facial it was noticably absent from this review, that was my impression, not worth the introductory price of $59. There are tons of real spas in town, avoid this one.
