So tell me exactly WHY Pittsburgh HAS parks, bike trails, and bike lanes again? Every 'event' that Pittsburghers come up with always involves closing streets and major traffic arteries so people can 'play', while the rest of us are forced to maneuver around in multiple circles just to get things done on the few days and places we need to use to get things done.
Pride closes Liberty. Jazz closes two streets. Bike Pittsburgh has the audacity to call them 'open streets'...and then close them. Then there are the bridges that get shut down for multiple events. St. Patricks days closes the Strip.
This is ESPECIALLY inconvenient and inconsiderate on multiple levels when dealing with Penn Avenue in the Strip on any given WEEKEND day! Those of us who DO work Monday through Friday hours only have Saturdays and Sundays to get our necessary grocery shopping done. But hey, apparently it's by far much more important to close off THE most crucial street through the strip so that you can ride your bikes in circles.
And, not only does this hurt those of us who need to shop. It also hurts even more those who need to SELL in order to keep their doors open. Business owners in the Strip have been complaining for years about their losses for those days that everything gets shut down. Only the pastry and coffee shops actually make what they normally would on those days.
And the irony is that just two streets over, nearer the river...two much less needed streets that could be used. But NO...let's get them where it will hurt the most.
UPMC and Bike Pittsburgh...they don't care. Now, we're used to UPMC not caring. But the vegan, health, health, health nuts...well...one would THINK they'd know better and be more considerate.
Or perhaps this is another way for UPMC to shut down more businesses so they can scoop up more real estate.
