Mmm....Ice Cream!!!
Located on the less trafficked side of the Concord Mills mall, this food vendor is often overlooked by mall patrons. It's not a part of the food court so if you don't know it's there you can easily miss it. This DQ is a combo of ice cream and smoothies as it's Dairy Queen/Orange Julius. Orange Julius brings back some memories, no? If not, you weren't a child of the 80's!
They don't have the full menu of a sit down/drive thru DQ, just hot dogs and ice cream. If you need your blizzard fix, you're all set. The hot dogs are decent. Sadly, as with many ice cream vendors these days, they do not offer chocolate ice cream. Every menu item is concocted from a vanilla canvas. What ever happened to the good old fashion soft serve chocolate ice cream cone? Or better yet, the swirl cone? A huge miss where I'm concerned.
Usually this place is pretty slow. The employees are often leaning on the counter playing with their cell phones just waiting for a customer. I work in the mall and my staff likes it when they run "specials" from time to time. They will promote buy 1 get 1 for $1 blizzards and 2 of my staff members will go half and half on the price. Once a year they do a "customer appreciation day" in January that offers everything on the menu at half price. These are the best times to get your ice cream fix.
Don't forget to stop in for your seasonal blizzard fix as well. One of my favorites is the pumpkin pie blizzard but it's only around for a limited time. Get it while you can!
A downside to this is that the staff working behind the counter likes to overfill the blizzards. If one of my employees brings me a blizzard, it has melted and run all down the sides leaving a nasty trail of ice cream throughout the mall and through my store before the blizzard actually makes it into my hands. Really? Do you not think about things like that? At least put a lid on it!
